VEGTRA project aims at making the vegetable purchase process by manufacturers more sustainable. The project will be executed in cooperation with GreenSME consortium and our project partner ZPOW Kotlin.

Validation

ABOUT THE PROJECT VEGTRA

CHALLENGE

Zakład Przetwórstwa Owocowo-Warzywnego Kotlin is a Polish manufacturer of vegetable products such as ketchups, salads, concentrates, juices, canned vegetables and ready meals. Their main suppliers are local farmers who provide them with vegetables straight from their fields. Dealing with the vegetable purchasing process is one of the hot spots identified by Kotlin when planning the green transformation. In fact, the supply of vegetables is the main factor that is steering all the production – starting from the production plans, through capacity of production resources, and finishing on the stock level and dispatching logistic. Moreover, it is difficult to manage as the dates and quantities of supplies are uncontrollable by Kotlin as they depend on seasonal harvest periods determined by weather and local farmers behaviours. The local farmers are gathered within a few associations that cooperates with producers.

The challenge of the purchase process is scheduling it with inclusion of all limitation of farmers associations and production capacities, managing the schedule in real time to adopt it to any changes and to communicate it properly to any person involved.
