Introducing RECONOMY: Our New Project Focused on Sustainable Green Manufacturing

We are happy to announce the RECONOMY project we have started within the greenSME community. GreenSME aims to strengthen manufacturing SMEs’ capacity to adopt advanced technologies and social innovation for sustainability through a sustainability assessment tool, an action plan, and financial support to foster projects between manufacturing SMEs and Sustainability and Technology Providers.

MASTA started its accreditation journey in mid 2023 and finally was approved as a Technology Provider. In the first Open Call of greenSME our proposed project RECONOMY with a cooperant MJ Polymers, being a manufacturing SME, was chosen for funding.

RECONOMY is an acronym of the full project title which is "Near real time production costs monitoring for resources optimization and recycled materials promotion". The acronym was also intended to reflect, on the one hand, the economic benefits we expect to deliver to producers and, on the other hand, to show that we are working on a closed loop economy, in which we want to re-duce re-use and re-cycle the resources.

RECONOMY aims at introducing digital tracking of the production execution and its ongoing costs at plastic molding industry to encourage the manufacturers to increase use of recycled materials. We will use our MeMOM for it, that will be extended by a new profit calculation component. The integrated solution will be deployed at the MJ Polymers operating environment and validated based on current production orders. Visit the project website to read about the challenges we try to address, proposed solution and expected impact.

We set project KPIs we want to achieve. They relate to impact on sustainable manufacturing (material usage per product, average non-virgin materials usage), profitability of the manufacturing business (average profitability of products), and social impact (number of employees with enhanced digital skills).
